Some devices require a wired ethernet connection but may be located in an area where no ethernet port is available.
A WiFi range extender with an ethernet port can be used to create a wired connection using your existing wireless network. This allows ethernet-required devices to connect to your network even if your router is located elsewhere in the store.
This setup is commonly used for devices such as:
Payment terminals
Label printers
Other hardware that requires a wired ethernet connection
In this example, we use the Netgear AC750 WiFi Range Extender (Model EX3700), but similar steps apply to most WiFi extenders with ethernet ports.
NETGEAR WiFi Range Extender Setup
Place your extender in the same room as your WiFi router for the initial setup.
The extender will only need to be near the router during setup. You can move it later.
1. Plug in the Extender
Plug the extender into an electrical outlet.
Wait for the Power LED to turn solid green.
If the light does not turn on, press the Power On/Off button on the side of the extender.
2. Connect Your Computer to the Extender
Open the network manager on your computer and connect to the WiFi network named:
NETGEAR_EXT
Once connected, the Device Link LED should turn green.
3. Open the Setup Page
Open a web browser (Chrome, Safari, etc.).
Navigate to:
http://www.mywifiext.net
Click NEW EXTENDER SETUP.
4. Begin Setup
Complete the fields on the Extender Setup screen and click Next.
Select WiFi Range Extender.
The extender will search for nearby WiFi networks.
5. Select Your WiFi Network
Choose your existing WiFi network from the list.
Example:
Existing WiFi network
bridallive
Extended network created by the extender
bridallive_2GEXT
If you have 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks, both may appear. You may extend either or both.
Click Next.
6. Enter Your WiFi Password
Enter the password for your existing WiFi network.
7. Confirm Extended Network Name
You can either:
Keep the default extended network name
Or create a new name
Using the default names can make setup easier.
Click Next.
8. Connect to the New Extended Network
Return to the network manager on your computer and connect to the new extended WiFi network.
Then click Continue in the setup screen.
You should see a confirmation message that the extender is connected.
9. Verify Status
Click Next to open the Status screen.
This screen confirms which WiFi network the extender is connected to.
Setup is now complete.
Connecting Your Device Using the Extender
Once setup is complete, the extender can be moved to the location where your device will be used.
Unplug the extender and move it to the desired location.
Plug the extender into an electrical outlet near the device.
Wait for the Power LED to turn solid green.
The Router Link LED indicates connection strength:
| Light | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Green | Best connection |
| Amber | Good connection |
| Red | Weak connection |
| Off | No connection |
If the light is red or off, move the extender closer to your router.
Connect the Device
Once the extender is connected:
Plug the ethernet cable from your device into the ethernet port on the extender.
Plug in and power on the device.
The device will now receive its network connection through the extender.
Example: Payment Terminal Setup
If you are connecting a payment terminal, the device may display an Activation Code once it boots.
You can then activate the device in your payment processing portal (such as MerchantTrack) and link it to BridalLive.
Refer to the device-specific setup guide for full activation instructions.
✅ Tip:
This setup works for many types of devices that require ethernet but are located far from the router.
